Vaporetto Lines to Murano & Burano from Venice

I'm hoping someone can clear up some confusion for me... I'm trying to plan a day going to murano (leaving from San Zaccaria vaporetto stop) for an hour or so, then on to Burano where I'll spend more time and have a lunch reservation. Then back to Venice, landing at San Zaccaria again. I really want to get the timing down so I can plan my lunch reservation but can't seem to get a solid answer on what lines run these routes. I have heard I should take the LE line but don't see it on the vaporetto map. any insight? Thanks in advance!

There used to be a great on-line planning app for the vaporetti but it disappeared a couple of years ago. For the most part. the boats run so continuously that you only have to wait a few minutes, but the Laguna trips do require some coordination as you have rightly assumed. We usually leave Venice proper in time to arrive on Murano when the shops open, then head to Burano for lunch. It is 30 minutes from Murano to Burano.

So three options to get to Murano. The 4.1 and 4.2 run frequently.

  • From San Zaccaria the #4.1 to Murano-Colonna, 45 minutes

  • Summer only the #7 from San Zacc takes 25 minutes

  • Walk to the Fondamente Nova (15 minutes from San Marco) and take a #4.1 or #4.2. It is about 15 minutes to Murano-Colonna from here.

SO if you catch a 4.1 from San Zacc at about 09:30, you will arrive Murano about 10:15.

Murano to Burano leaves form Murano-Faro at :19 and :49 and takes 30 minutes. So if you have a reservation for 13:00, you want to be on the 12:19 vaporetto from Murano-Faro.

Actually, I think it was the LN line (Laguna north?). Not sure. Thanks for the input, I'll see if I can decipher the timetables and take Laurel's advice!

One of the hobbies I have when I go to Venice is deciphering the changes to the numbering (or lettering) of the various vaporetto routes.

Every year they seem to throw some sort of wrench in the machinery by fiddling with the routes.

The LN used to run, all the way out to Punta Sabbioni if I remember correctly, but has been renamed and divided.

Out to Murano and Burano follow Laurel's advice above.

I usually take a day for Torcello, Burano and Murano most trips, but I have never been to the cemetery. One year I'll get there. If you do go, be ready to hop off when the boat docks. It usually only stops there for a short time.

One more question... Which line runs from murano to burano and what is the burano stop called? I can't seem to figure it out on the schedule.

It is the 12; the name of the stop in Burano is "Burano". It is just a few hundred metres beyond Mazzorbo down the Mazzorbo channel.

If you are on the boat from Fondamente Nove or if you join it on Murano you will feel how fast you are crossing the Lagoon on the boat. When you start to go quite slowly along the Mazzorbo channel you are almost at Burano.
