Vaporetto Fares - Android Phone vs. Physical Tickets

Hi all,

First post (and first trip to Europe!), so please forgive me if I'm asking a repeat question.

I'll be in Venice this June and will be using the vaporetto to get around, including from the train station to my hotel. Any opinions on how well the Android app works as a fare pass (I'll need a 48-hour pass) vs. buying a physical ticket? From what I see on the Google Play store, the reviews of the app are pretty negative, but I also don't want to fumble too much with a ticket machine after a long day on trains from Monterroso. For what it's worth, I have a Pixel 9.

Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum!

There is a manned kiosk right outside the train station, the vaporettos are right there

Just wait til you arrive and buy a physical ticket
Super easy

Be sure to validate your pass each and every time you board

Get the Che Batteo? App -very handy

I just got back from 2plus weeks in Italy. (also Pixel 9 user, google fi, great!)
We bought paper tickets 48hr passes at the airport (ours included the 1 way bus to Pza Roma). We purchased using one of the many machines, choose English and it's pretty painless. If you want to go to a person at a booth, that's fine too. Using the paper pass was easy. just touch and go, it's probably even easier than using your phone, since you have to call up the app. Sometimes, paper really is easier. On the other hand, I used trenitalia and italo apps for all my train purchases and they were fast and easy.
