I can't seem to find this in my Search efforts. On my previous trips, the multi- day pass was a small paper card. Does it still come in hard copy, or can one get an electronic version, if purchased in Venice?
I'm hesitant to buy in advance, because of previous trip flight cancelations, one of which delayed us by 24 hours.
Thanks so much for your helpful info, as always!
I’m not sure why you’d want to buy in advance, since they don’t run out, but if you did, I don’t think a delay would matter - they ‘start the clock’ on a pass the first time you use it.
But if I bought a 72 hr pass in advance and my flight was delayed, I would only have 48 hrs left in my stay to use the pass. Thx
I was just in Venice. I bought this pass on the arrivals level of the Venice airport - there were any number of machines as well as counters with real, live people selling the tickets. The pass was a paper card that is read electronically when you get on the vaporetto (you must put it against a machine each time you enter each vaporetto).
Regardless of where or when you buy the ticket, the 72 hours does NOT start until you use it the first time - validating it at the first machine of the first vaporetto. So you will not “lose” any time because of a late flight.
I see no particular advantage in buying the ticket in advance.
I saw this posted on another thread - - one can save money on a vaporetto pass when purchased at least 30 days in advance (5 € for 2, 3 or 7 day passes, less for shorter passes) https://www.veneziaunica.it/en/content/book-advance-and-save.
It appears it’s a voucher with a code that can then be exchanged for the paper pass itself via ticket machines or POS vendors explained here https://www.veneziaunica.it/en/content/how-use-it.
