Vaporetti Pass Start Time

My husband and I will be in Venice for 4 days in mid-September. We plan to buy the 72 hour vaporetti pass at the train station when we arrive. Will this pass expire 72 hours after it's purchase or will the 72 hours start with first actual use of the pass on a vaporetti? Also, where do we buy the pass at the train station? Is it possible to purchase a pass at a vaporetti stop.

It will expire 72 hours after you first validate it before boarding your first time. There is a kiosk near the Vaporetto stop in front of the train station.

You need to validate it for every ride (just tap or scan it at the boarding area.

where do we buy the pass at the train station?

Walk down the steps and when you have stopped gawking at the magnificent Grand Canal right befo e you, look to the right along the waterfront for the "Hello Venezia" booth. The passes are available there.

The cabin is to the left as you walk down the steps.

There is a not particularly beautiful ramp if you don't like steps - all the way to the left at the front of the main tracks. It isn't gorgeous but it is a ramp.

Better if you can do steps is to enjoy the view.

Hey Nigel- It was to the right as you face the canal from the station stairs when I was there in April...and for years prior. Did they move it?

Look right and left, just like crossing a street.

The Hello Venezia white portable cabin with the helpful people inside has been just below the bottom of the stairs on the left hand side (towards Rialto, looking down the stairs) for 2 or 3 years since they moved into the portable cabin.

There are several booths at the water's edge at the various docks.

I'm sorry we disagree on this but I'm quite sure. My last time there was in May.

I guess we just need to set it up so we are there at the same time, then have a coffee and brioche at Pasticceria Tonolo Tullio to discuss it...

Here is a YouTube link on showing you how to purchase your ticket in venice, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84ZJLlczX5Q.

You can also pre order your tickets if you wish, just make sure you bring your confirmation number with you, located on your receipt, to have your tickets issued to you from the machine.

Nigel what a plan! We will be there in early December. Want to join us?

My husband tells me I can do North-South-East-West blindfolded, but do not know right from left. I did find this link that indicates there are ticket booths both to the right and to the left!
- Automatic ticket machines on the “S. Lucia” and “Scalzi” landing stages
- Venezia Unica ticket offices on the “S. Lucia” and “Scalzi” landing stages (see the map)

Meet you at Tonolo, Nigel?
