Vaporette Pass in Venice

On purchasing a 24 or 48 hour pass do the hours start when first validated? If I purchase a 48 hour pass at 2 pm on Monday does it expire at 2 pm on Wednesday?

yup, from when first used. It doesn't matter when you buy it, it is when it is first used, which may be the time.

Last time I was there, the vaporetto's were very expensive to travel on. The Grand Canal is just a big figure S. I figured out that walking to the left of the train station will eventually get you to the Rialto Bridge and St. Marks Square.
It's a very pleasant stroll. We seldom even get on a vaporetto--choosing to just hoof it around this fantastic city.

.....but if you buy it online, I think time starts running when picked up. Make sure you ask.

If you purchase a pass online at www.veniceconnected.com to get the discount, then the time starts where you convert the PNR code to the actual pass. You can do this just before you would get on the vaporetto as you can get them at the automated machines at several spots.
