Valtellina July 2023

Hello I was able to plan my 2019 Rome trip with all the great input of this forum.

We are planning a family reunion to Valtellina, Italy in July of 2023. The reason for Valtellina is because our family name is “Valte” and we just love Italy! The planning is at the early stages. We are about 25 family members ranging from 5 years old to the oldest 72. We are coming from the East and West coast, hopefully staying for 2 weeks, We are thinking arriving at Lugon, Switzerland and probably make our way to Valtellina, Milan, Venice? Since we have a range of ages my thought was to have a home base and take day trips. This way we can be together for some activities and also take day trips based on family members interests. We still need to do more research. Any suggestions on what towns to visit - where should home base be?, hotels, restaurants or any other suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thank you 🙏🏻

You could stay in Tirano, which is close enough to both Lake Como and Bormio/Stelvio Pass, if you’d like to take some drives. Also from Tirano you can take the Bernina Express train to Switzerland.

The name Valtellina actually comes from the town of Teglio, in the same Valley. Valtellina means Teglio Valley. Tellino/a is the demonym of “Teglio”. So a resident of Teglio would be called Tellino (or Tellina if female).
