We are on a Cruise this summer and one of the excursions is to tthe Valley of the Temples. Is there a way to get there on your own asw the quote off of the ship is very expensive?

Try their website:www.lavalledeitempli.itto see if they mention something.And/or Google "Valle dei Templi" and Agrigento. This is a Michelin *** destination so there should be some alternatives to the ship tour.

Lucky you Neil - two visits to that area and still I need to spend more time...
Google for travel companies in Palermo or Catania (in which port are you docking?)and see what day tours are available. http://www.sicilytravel.net may help. Either way, you will have a long day ahead of you with travel from port and return. Last trip, in spring of '06,I managed about 4 hours at the temples alone, but then I hate rushed travel. You can get guided tours or an audio guide at the entrance to the temples, Piazzale dei Templi.
Sicily Tour also customizes tours of the Valley of the Temples (http://www.sicily-tour.com/).
