Valid ID for Reduced Tickets

Hi all,

I will be traveling to Rome later this year and am planning to purchase tickets in advance for certain attractions. Some, like the Colosseum, offer discounted tickets for EU citizens between the ages of 18 and 25. My age falls within that range, and I am an Italian citizen, so I should be eligible for the discount. However, the only proof I have of my citizenship is my Italian passport, which will have expired just a couple of months before I arrive in Italy. Does anyone have information on whether my expired passport will be sufficient to evidence my eligibility for discounted tickets?

Thanks so much.

An Italian living in Italy would have their Italian ID card with them and would use that.
Since you presumably don't have one of them, the only other valid proof of citizenship is your passport and you say you can't renew your that in time.
I would therefore suggest you try with your passport. they can only say no!

BTW are you sure it is EU citizens and not EU residents? Which you presumably are not.

@Dario: "or an EU driving license" - that depends whether the criteria is citizenship or residence. A licence proves residence, but not citizenship.
Do Italian citizens resident outside Italy get Italian ID cards?

If you can make an appointment at your closest Italian consulate before your trip, it takes 20 minutes to renew the passport and have a new passport book in your hands. They take your digital fingerprints and print the passport book on the spot.

Thanks all for your help! To clarify, I am a dual citizen and do not live in Italy, so I don't have an ID card. Yes, I do believe that the emphasis is on citizenship rather than residency. My passport should prove that I am a citizen, so I am mostly wondering whether its being expired would cause an issue.
