I am looking for information on the ski resort val Gardena, how it compares to resorts in Austria? We are planning a trip to Selva in Val Gardena and would appreciate any feed back on where to stay etc!

My favorite ski destination in Europe. We have staid in Selva at the Hotel Oswald, which is a fancier 4 star and rather formal, and the Hotel des Alpes across the street, a 3 star but friendlier family owned type of place. Local bus to the lifts, but only a 400 m walk. The amazing interconnectivity of the lift system is the draw here. Do the Sella Ronda excursion around the Sella Masif through 4 different valleys and return to the same spot. You can do it clockwise or anticlockwise. Takes about 4 hours if you keep moving. Dolomites have a nice blend of Austrian Gemuetlicheit (it used to be part of Austria) and Italian Dolce Vita. PM me if you want more details.

You might also consider Val Badia, particularly around Corvara or Colfosco.
