I will be in Tuscany first week of March. We will spend time in Chianti Villa. Day 1 chill out at Villa after arrival - dinner locally . Day 2 Sienna and San G.- guided tour. Day 3 - Val D’Orcia. Day 4 Florence. Day 5 Chianti and cooking class at our Villa (we could skip a winery in prior)
My question is about Day 3 - Val D’Orcia. We have a private driver for 8 hours and will arrive in Montepulciano at 10:30 am to explore the city and the underground tasting rooms of Ercola with a tasting. We are having a hard time deciding if we should go from here to Pienza to conclude our day or from here to Montecino for a proper Brunello winery tasting experience in the farmland. On this trip, we do not have any formal winery tours booked. We have the ability to do that on our last day and Chianti if we want but I have heard great things about the Brunello wines and if given option to tour there. I am really not sure if we should skip Pienza in favor of a Wine tour and afternoon in Montecino versus Pienza. As you can see from our itinerary, we are going to be spending a lot of time exploring villages, so having the wine tour is something different in the countryside that might be a bit more leisurely, but on the other hand, I don’t know how much wine one can drink in a day, and we will start with a tasting room in the city of montepulciano. I am really having a difficult time deciding. Not to mention that the first week of March - not all wineries are open yet and so I will need to do research on what winery in Montecino is going to be a solid option that is open. At least if we go to Pienza, I know that it will have plenty open including restaurants . Has anyone done both Montalcino and Pienza and have an opinion on which is better with just one day and Val DOrcia in early March? The montepulciano start is certain thx
Thx
