Hi My family and I (Myself,my wife, and 2 daughters age 21 and 25) will be traveling to italy th eend of March- first week of April,'08. We will have 3 days,2 nights beafore we leave Florence for home. I'm trying to figurer out where to go- maybe train to Genoa as a base and going to cinqueterre and San Remo pos. monte Carlo. What do you think?
I would not use Genoa as a base for the CT. Stay in the CT. You will waste a bunch of time on the train getting back and forth --unless you just want to see one or two towns in a day. If you want to hike the trail, then you need to at least overnight there.
The CT needs to be treated like Florence or Rome, it's worth one or two nights at least. Slow down and relax there, walk some of the trail, or take the train and explore several of the little towns, the view from their harbor or small beach and the wonderful Pesto and seafood.
Genoa is a big city with not a lot to offer.
My daughter is spending the spring semester of college in Florence. We will be visiting Italy Mar20-April 6. We booked Hotel Dei Papi in Rome for 5 Nights, Followed by Metropole Suisse in Como for 4, then 5 nights in Florence-Hotel Academia. We then have 2 nights unbooked. I will be traveling with my wife and second daughter(25). I am thinking of going to Cinqueterre and pos. San remo & also monte carlo if time alows. Train to CT then rent a car? We plan on taking train between cities.Should we get tickets as we go or get a pass good for 3-4 days? Ha sanyone stayed in these hotels? Ciao! & Thanks for your help.
You could always stay in Santa Marguerita. It's a lovely little town and a good location to not only visit the CT, but Portofino and France.
Thanks everyone,
4 Adults going from florence to the northwest coast of italy, April 4-6. We will not have much luggage as we will leave most of it in florence, from which we depart onApril 7. What do you think? Trains or car or a combination of both? If trains-multi-day passes or in dividual tickets?First class or second? We're thinking of CT and pos. France if time allows. Thank you for all the help.
