vacation

We are planning to take our 18 year old daughters to Italy summer of 2011 for about 3 weeks. We have traveled through much of of Italy, and this trip we hope to rent reasonable, 2 BR/2 BA apartments in three different mid to smaller size cities. We'd like to spend one week at the sea, something like Cinque Terra, one week on a lake, like Bolsena, and one week in a city similar to Assisi or Siena. Any suggestions on cities and/or apt.rentals that you have found would be great. We prefer locations that are easily accessible to public transportation and that have some night life. Thanks!

I agree with Steve, a week in CT seems too long. Assisi may also be too quiet for an entire week( monks and nuns are there for contemplation!). For a lake, go for Lake Como, we have stayed in Mennagio at the Bellavista Hotel (lake view) and can catch the ferries to many other lakeside towns for nice day trips.we have stayed in a few vacation apartments (in Spain)and really like having laundry, making a decent salad, space. I would spend at least 4 nights in Rome- it sounds hectic but I find it easy to get around with metro or bus, and so much history to see- perhaps good shopping and better night life for an 18 yr. old gal.Good for just walking around at night. Another coastal experience could be Sorrento and a drive or stay on the Amalfi coast.A day trip can be to Ana Capri.

We spent 8 days in CT in June. If you just want to relax and take your time it's fine but you really could do CT in 3/4 days and still not be too rushed. Also, that time of year I doubt you'll find a place like you described in CT and while there are small bars open late I don't really call it a night life in CT.

Hi Judy,
We have a vacation home (in VT not Italy :))that we rent on cyberrentals/homeaway.com. The listings are mostly done by owners themselves (like VRBO) so the choices will vary considerably but you will also be able to find reasonable accommodations and may be able to negotiate. The sites are easy to navigate and will tell you whats' nearby and what they provide.
Good luck!
