Can anyone speak to their experience using Uber App in Rome to book a taxi? We have done so in other countries and I like the fact that our usual Uber payment method and fare calculation are built in to the ride. I know that standard Uber X cars are not available.
Thanks.
We didn't use an Uber app for our taxi rides in Rome, but we did use FreeNow, https://www.free-now.com/, which worked well. It's an app for ordering a taxi, (that's similar to our experience using Lyft.)
You enter your destination and it shows what the fare will be; it adds a small charge on top of that--for example, a trip to the airport from the Vatican was 51.50 euros (50 euros (capped) + 1.50 fee). The ride is charged to the credit card that you enter when you set up the account. All of our (six) rides were in regular marked taxi cabs.
