using the bus in rome - trying to reach the appian way by non tourist bus

I found information about which bus numbers to take to sites on the appian way regional park website. The same website directed me to this website: www.atac.roma.it

For the life of me I can not figure out how to find a map that will show me where to get on and off and how close this is to the sites of interest. When I put in the names of the tourist sites I want to travel between it tells me there is no map available and when I put in the addresses it seems confused.

Does anyone know of a simpler website for bus maps and timetables in Rome?

I don't know of a different website, but try this to make your information work on the ATAC site:
-Put the site in English
-Make sure the first box says "ROMA"
-I selected "Pantheon" for the starting point and it searched for it and found it and accepted it alone by just writing it
-Write "via appia antica" in the second box
-Set the time to a time when the bus would be running
-bus stops are marked "F" & named with direction marked (and if you zoom in, you can see the route from where you're walking to the stop)--plus, in my experience, bus stops in Rome were pretty noticeable
-it will do the same for your connections--tell you how many stops to go, how long it takes, etc.
