We're a family of 4 traveling to Florence and Venice in mid-April. Our daughter has a college ID and ISIC (International Student Identity Card); our son (24) could get the IYTC (International Youth Travel Card), and for that matter I am a teacher, so I presumably could get International Teacher Identity Card. My question is whether any of these are accepted for discounts at Italian museums, public trans, etc. Each card costs $22, so they would have to be valid at several spots to make it worth it, and I haven't been able to determine whether it makes any sense? Thanks!
Thanks, Steve. I guess my real question is whether non-EU students, youth, teacher cards are valid. Someone told us that most discounts are only for EU residents. Any info on that?
Probably not...although it can depend on the institution. I know the Duomo offer no discounts at all. The 13 attractions that operate under the auspices of the Italian government in Florence (Firenze Musei) only offer the discounts to European students and teachers only. That includes the Uffizi, Accademia, and Palatine Gallery. You can check details here. With all these attractions not offering discounts, it's probably not worth your while to get the discount cards for Florence.
Venice doesn't seem to define those under 25, so it might work better there. But no mention of teacher discounts. Click here for Venice museum details.
There are some EU resident only discounts, but they're usually posted on the website so you can check ahead of time. The policy varies from site to site, and I'm sure it also from ticket seller to ticket seller. In my experience more often than not, my US university ID has gotten a discount. Sometimes the word "studenti" gets the discount and they don't even want to see my ID after I've dug it out of my purse.
Can a student from the US not take their valid college ID card from here? Seems like we used my daughter's at the Tower of London and it worked.
