I found an ATM machine in Italy but could not change it to English and could not understand the words needed to withdraw money from the machine. My phrase book only has words for changing money at a bank in person. It does mention ATM's but no helpful words. Help.

Strange, that while in Italy, or most other countries, I have never encountered an ATM that didn't have an English button (or British flag to signify English). Try a different ATM. Make sure it's an ATM from an Italian bank.

I'll assume the machine is also displaying the Visa/MasterCard/other logo that matches your card, right? Some machines without those logos will only work with that bank's local cards. Some banks have both types of ATM, next to each other.

"Try a different ATM," was the best answer. It turned out the ATM I was using was for a credit union, not a bank. It took some walking but I found another ATM that did offer different languages.
