For a July cruise with friends, I arrive at FCO with 2 other women. We are staying one hight near Ostia Antica, to walk around there that afternoon. My question is: should we just get in the taxi line at FCO for a short ride to the hotel? Will one taxi take 3 passengers with suitcases or is there a limit? The next morning, we go to the Civitavecchia port. Is it best to book a car service in advance or is taxi ok for that? I appreciate any info or a link to find out more about taxi service or an app to use for a taxi? In previous visits to Rome, I have traveled with husband on train to city center but this trip is different .
"..should we just get in the taxi line at FCO for a short ride to the hotel?" Yes. Or use a car service.
"Will one taxi take 3 passengers with suitcases..." Yes.
"Is it best to book a car service in advance..." Yes.
Google Rome Cabs. It is a car service despite the name. We've used them several times and have always been pleased. Simply send them an email outlining your needs and you should get a response within 24 hours.
Do not overlook asking your hotel for advice/suggestion on the subject.
Also search Welcome Pick-up. It is a car service much like Rome Cabs as mentioned above.
There are two taxi lines at FCO; one, the closest to the terminal, is for taxis bound for Rome city.
The other line is for taxis dong local runs, including Fiumicino town and Ostia.
Just tell the guys lingering by the taxis where you want to go and they will point out which line you should go to.
Yes, one taxi will take three passengers. There are also van taxis.
Much thanks for the responses. Very helpful for our planning.
Make sure you are in the official taxi line
Don’t go with anyone “offering” a taxi outside of that line
Have your destination address on a slip of paper to hand the driver
Confirm that their card machine is working or pay cash
