US citizen residing in U.K. for past 2 months travel to Italy

I came into England from US on 1 August thru Ireland. They only gave me a 90 day visa but I need to stay in U.K. for 180 days (paid for apt lease)
Can I fly to Italy for couple days so I can return and get my passport U.K. stamped?

UK citizens are exempt. US citizens coming from US are not allowed. I’m living in U.K. but not a UK citizen
Any ideas or suggestions who to contact?

I would contact the Italian Embassy in the UK about your ability to enter Italy and I would contact the UK immigration office about your ability to re-enter the UK from Italy.

You asked about the 90 day visa issue 3 weeks ago. If you haven't got that properly answered yet, that should be your priority.

Do be aware that UK Border Force systems are quite alert to people taking very short trips away in order to extend their visitor stay in the UK, especially when done right at the end of the initial period. This doesn't mean that you are bound to be stopped and questioned as to what you are doing but it is certainly a chance and hence there will be a small but not zero possibility of you being denied re-entry. So do not leave anything in your apartment.

Given that 6 months is the 'normal' allotment, and you got just a 90 day permit, makes for the thought a "couple days" in Italy to reset the clock, may be a dubious maneuver.

Definitely get some official word before you leave that you can return

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. The American embassy gave me an email address which directed me (auto response) to contact the specific country embassy. I spoke to very charming Italian who said “no problem”. Just bring proof I’ve been in England for more than 2 weeks. I’m not sure if his answer was totally based on rules & regulations or an attempt to be helpful. But I’ve made plane & hotel reservations to Milan on October 4th for 2 nites and will keep fingers crossed. I will follow up on this site after my trip.
