Us citizen , passport not stamped while transiting through FCO

I am a us citizen currently on a vacation to Greece . I entered eu from fco. I was directed to the egate and the gate opened after my passport was scanned and face id was confirmed. The lady directed me to proceed to my flight . It appears that she should have sent me to the immigration officer for stamping passport and that stampless entry for third country citizens is still 2 months away. I am exiting through Rome . No over stay. Trip lasted 7 days . No prior overstays or any other issue. What should I do ? I plan to bring my ticket during Schengen exit . Should I do anything else ?

No need to worry. You were electronically scanned in. Do have your ticket available or your boarding pass on your phone but they will not ask for it.

I freaked myself out a few years ago leaving UK. I was on the plane and realized I'd not gone thru any stamping process. The guy next to me was a frequent traveler and explained it was electronic.

No, you were electronically logged on entry, they will have that record on exit. Probably would not hurt to have some record (boarding pass from your flight, itinerary on the airline app, etc.) of entry, but really not necessary.

If things go per plan, by early next year, no more stamps for Schengen anyway.

Maybe need to worry. We had this happen many years ago and the lazy agents at FCO just waved everyone from our plane through without stamping. I had to prove my entry when leaving from Amsterdam and the guy pulled over with us for the same issue, missed the plane. I don't know if he could not prove it or had overstayed.

Probably it is scanned in with todays' systems, but I would give yourself a little extra time at exit and have paperwork to show when you entered. I read about the problem on TA after being in Italy and so we sent to the airport early at exit and I had collected airline tickets, hotel receipts etc which they poured over and then retroactively stamped our passports. It took over an hour in a little room before this was done. We were leaving on the 89th day.

We are in the 2020’s and even the governments are embracing technology. Since the end of last year the Schengen area has started to adopt the EES (Entry Exit system) whereby your entry is recorded only digitally and no longer through a manual stamp. Maybe not all airport have it yet, but FCO is one of the European airports which are at the vanguard of technology, so it’s already operative there. Actually at FCO you can carry as many liquids through security as you wish. They adopted an MRI technology so the security procedures allows you to bring as much wine as you wish.

When we exited thru Schiphol last week, everything was automated e-gates except for those with children under 17. Asked a supervising agent if I needed a stamp and he just shrugged his shoulders and gave me one but most of the people were off to their gates.

As of Sept 1, all EU airports have to go back to the old 3-1-1 bag rules. No word on how long that will be.

I guess the EU commissioners and bureaucrats were bored to rule only in the curvature of bananas and the allowable diameter of cucumbers.
