URGENT - Val Gardena Closed for our June 1 -5 trip - Need a new plan!

Hello,

My husband and I have a trip planned to Italy from May 27-June 9.Our hotel in Val Gardena emailed us to let us know they will not be open during our stay as the paths, hikes, etc are in bad shape from all of the snow.

We need a new plan for June 1 - June 5 asap and really need help figuring out where to go! Our hope was to be somewhere more remote so any towns or areas you think would be a good alternative, *ideally somewhere between Florence and Tuscany*

**

We are open to beach towns as well if there is enough to do/see.

May 27-June 1 = Southern Tuscany
June 1 - June 5 = Dolomites
June 5- June 9 = Florence/Friends Wedding

Thank you so much!!

Oh no! what hotel? We are planning on being there the same time but have not gotten anything to that effect. We will be in Ortisei. Before changing your plans for the area, I would double check the surrounding areas for good trails. I will call Hotel Charme Deur hof to inquire and try to post back.

It was in Selva! He said the snow has a long way to go before it melts and they are forecasted to have bad rain and weather for the next 10 days. Sounds like the walk ways and trails will be gross, even if open. So bummed :(. make sure to call!

I chimed in on your other posts too, so now I more fully understand your predicament.
I would keep the car and explore the southern Tuscan coast--no need to go all the way to Amalfi for beautiful coast! (Plus in Amalfi you will pay high prices and have short supply of accommodations.) The Maremma area is gorgeous and much much less crowded. June is still fairly quiet (I was there in late May and it was divine). Look at Orbetello and Monte Argentario.
I also like the Pesaro area--but I would not drive that far considering you will be in Tuscany before and after. If still of interest though, it sounds like you would like the Sirolo area south of Ancona, and there is a park just north of Pesaro full of beautiful villages and scenery.
But seriously look at my first suggestion--it makes the most use of your time and it gorgeous and without throngs of people. The scenery on Monte Argentario is somewhat similar to the Amalfi coast but there are only two settlements. It's quite rocky. Then the spit of Orbetello connects it to the mainland. We stayed there for mainland access. Gorgeous beaches and interesting hill towns. good luck!

Orbetello and Monte Argentario sounds awesome! Do you recommend staying 2 days each or 4 nights at one location?

Is it more of a lounge around/beach type experience or are there restaurants etc? Also hotel/accommodation wise, is it best to AIRBNB or find a hotel?

Thanks for your help!!! Really appreciate the detail.

They are only minutes apart by car, so I would choose one or the other. Orbetello is a cute little old town with plenty of restaurants. It is on a lagoon so quite different. We did not want to be driving back and forth to the promontory of Monte Argentario every day, which adds about half an hour to any drive (it's windy), so we chose Orbetello. There are lots of apartment rentals in the new part of town, which is a 10 minute walk to the old town (parking easier in new town also). There are hill towns and Etruscan sites all over the mainland as well as Maremma park, so it just depends on how much driving you wish to do. We also stayed on the mainland before and after staying in Orbetello--our whole trip was in this small region. Pitigliano and Massa Marittima are two towns not on the coast that we enjoyed.
The rocky Monte Argentario peninsula has two small villages and there are some resorts. There are also ferries to Giglio. Both villages have several restaurants.
I know your time is limited with the last-minute cancellation, but now that you are not worrying about traveling so far, you should be able to do some quick research to determine exactly where you wish to be. I doubt this area books up nearly as much as Amalfi, so peruse some accommodations to see what you would prefer. good luck!
