Rick's book says we should be able to take a bus, but the owner of our b and b said it could not be done, and the only train route is through another city whose name I did not recognize. Have to make arangements by tomorrow morning. Please help! How can we get there?
Google "bus from siena to volterra" for instructions on what to do. You have to change buses.
ashley, Could you clarify which "arrangements" you have to make by tomorrow morning? It should be easy to figure out the transportation once you arrive in Siena. I've only briefly looked at this, but in the same situation I'd consider a couple of different options: > Take a Taxi from Siena to Colle Val d'Elsa (about 20 kM, I believe) and then a Bus to Volterra. > Take a Bus from Siena to Colle Val d'Elsa and then another Bus to Volterra. > Take a Train from Siena to Poggibonsi, and then Bus to Volterra. I'd ask the Hotel / B&B staff in Siena for suggestions, and decide on the best option when arrive there. You might visit the Bus office in Piazza Gramsci in Siena, as they should be able to sort the details for you. I'd have to do a bit more research, but these look like the easiest and best options. Good luck and happy travels!
As Ken says : Bus from Siena to Colle val d'Elsa. this will be a SITA bus. link to schedule: http://www.sitabus.it/sita-toscana/Firenze-Siena2010.pdf Then at Colle V E switch to a CPT bus to Volterra. Link to schedule: http://www.cpt.pisa.it/orari/extra/linea770.htm Reverse process to get back to Siena.
Thanks, all, for the help. Got where we were going, and the drive was beautiful.
