Because there are questions about arriving in Venice, I thought I would share info about the shared water taxis specifically…in case that would be an option apart from the public transportation options and for those who don’t want to hire a private taxi. The Venice airport terminal has been enlarged, and the booth for shared taxis is now on the second floor and at the far end in the midst of the car rentals. We arrived Tuesday, arranged for a shared taxi with six others, and waited no more than five minutes (they say to allow more as I remember, but we’ve never waited more than ten). You then proceed down a hallway, down an escalator and out to the docks, where you find your water taxi. The tickets are currently €35. Your luggage is put aboard, guests sorted out as to order of destination, and off you go! You are dropped at the closest public dock to your hotel…not to an individual dock.
This is such a nice way to get into Venice, and we’ve appreciated that we haven’t had to wrangle our carryons and backpacks on the Alilaguna boats. They suggest booking online so that they can anticipate your arrival, but we were told that it’s not a problem if your flight is delayed. We’ve had no issues at all just showing up.
hey hey cathy
thank you for your update on the shared water taxi. many folks always want a "budget" way to get to or from venice. traveling with a few friends, we have always hired a private water taxi and split it. such a fabulous and fun way to arrive & depart, plus no hassle with my luggage, space to move and relax. not like on the alilaguna or vaporettos. splurge a little bit on the water taxi with the cost already i'm spending of my vacation with savings else where.
