We will be in Bologna this October and after watching the RS Monday Night travel on back door places in Italy, one of the guides suggested going to the University in Bologna, which is apparently one of the oldest universities in Italy. Not sure if we can tour it on our own or we have to take a guided tour. I looked on Get Your Guide and they want $130 pp for a two hour tour. Not willing to pay that, but not sure if we can just tour on our own. Can anyone who has been to this university comment please?
Go to the University’s website. You may have to do some searching, on the site, but the University itself offers a monthly tour.the one in October is Saturday Oct. 19 at 10:30, and you must sign up for the tour at October 4. I don’t know if the tour has any English options.
If you are looking for a private guide in Bologna, I highly recommend Nathalie Zaveroni. We did two private 3 - 4 hour tours with her in March and really enjoyed the experience. She can tailor a tour to your interests but I see on her website that she has one planned itinerary titled “Bologna The Learned” which focuses on the University. Do a web search for her name and “Guide in Bologna”. You can email her for pricing but it may be less than price you mention. She can also make suggestions for other things to do in Bologna while there.
I took a tour given by the university. It went through the oldest parts of the building (beautiful) and spent time in the anatomical theatre and another large room. There is rich decoration in both and in some of the corridors. The cost was minimal. I'm pretty sure the theatre is only accessible with a guide.
Thank you for these responses, but I'm still unclear. Can we tour the University of Bologna independently or do we need to take a tour? If we need a tour, can someone give a link for one?
I did not take a tour of the Archiginnasio when I visited Bologna in 2019. I was able to wander around. You do need a ticket to visit the Anatomical Theater.
We want to tour the University museums. Not sure where to find more information.
