United Flights Cancelled?

I’ve had my eye on UA 884 from Washington to Rome in September/October watching the cost dollars/miles fluctuate. Took a look today and the flight is no longer listed. I assume they’ve stopped all long haul bookings for time being.

The airlines are starting to release their revised long haul schedules. American released its schedule last week and eliminated all seasonal routes, which generally go from a US hub to a secondary city for the airline. I think United's Dulles to Rome flight is seasonal, so I suspect United is following American in cutting those routes. The airline likely feels like it cannot fill a plane on that route, but it can get you to Rome by connecting through another United US hub (if any of those are still serving Rome) or a Star Alliance partner hub in Europe.

United just cancelled our flight from Rome to Chicago in July. They have rebooked us on a flight from Rome to Newark and then to Chicago. I didn’t accept the change and put in for a refund because there is no way we can get through customs and onto our next flight in roughly an hour. We’ll see what the response is.

My flight to Rome and back from Venice in September no longer show up in my trips on AA.com. It only shows going from DAY - CLT and back from PHL - DAY. I have not received any email notifying me of the change.

Niekamdt, I am in the same situation as you with American. Flights from PHL to Rome and Venice to PHL not showing for October confirmations and no notification by email given. I think American will eventually try to route passengers through Heathrow where they can connect to other European destinations through their British Air codeshare and cooperation. I might just cancel our trip and tour in October and book it for 2021.

bhamburger351 - I sent a message through twitter to AA asking about the flights. They have cancelled all flights until Oct 25. I gave them my record locator and they refunded my points to my account. I had to request a refund though their refund system for payments made for upgraded seats. Those refunds are pending. There are flights available with BA and Iberia, but I am going to hold off for a few months and see what happens before I consider booking those.

UA hasn't stopped our long haul booked for beginning of June, but we are hoping.

AA cancelled our flights as well to Italy. We rebooked with them and are now flying British Airways. Only thing that sucks is you have to pay for seats with BA vs when we didn’t thru AA. Trip isn’t till October. At least we didn’t get charged to make those changes and AA was very helpful!

EDreyer, did you receive any cancellation notification from AA? I have not received any notice, but since I know our flights are cancelled, I will contact AA to get my miles back and hold off making any alternative reservations until Italy opens for business again. We have an October tour.

Burger- we didn’t receive anything either I just happens to look at AA app and it said schedule change. And our flight to Italy wasn’t there. I wasn’t going to do anything for a few months cause they said not to contact if your flight was later. But I did once I saw our flight was gone!

United cancelled my Dulles - Madrid (non-stop) flight for later this year and rebooked us going through Newark. The app won’t allow me to accept the change but that might be good. The original flight is waitlisted, so hopefully, if things open up, we’ll get rebooked back to the original flight if it is put back on the schedule.
