Unique Toddler toys, Italian made clothing Venice

Hello. In Venice now. Having an extremely difficult time trying to find quality made Italian clothing to take back to the states for our Granddaughter. Also would like to take her home a unique toy (wooden puzzle, doll, etc). Any ideas? Thank you

I looked at the website but unfortunately nothing seems to be for a young toddler unless I’m not translating the words properly. Thank you

Have a wander in and look around. That corner of Dorsoduro (campo San Barnaba) is scenic and fun. If you don't find anything there poke your nose in to some of the other places nearby. And if you stroll from there towards the Frari and San Pantalon (Chiesa di San Pantaleone Martire) you'll pass Tonolo. That is a bonus at any time of the day. (Commissario Brunetti thought so too).

Good luck - and have fun too

Did you find the Pinocchio store? It is small but packed with goodies.

At the moment, I can't think where in Venice I've been in a hardware store or a housewares store, but that kind of stuff is what my grandchildren enjoy more than toys or clothes --- real Italian vegetable scrubbers, Italian silicone potholders and trivets, small Italian pots and pans and scoops and nesting mixing bowls, interesting plastic containers, etc. Wonderful designs and colors. Perhaps choose several such items and a fun Italian container to put them all in.

You'll probably have to get away from the San Marco shopping area in order to find ordinary household items.

Pinocchio store is lovely but much pricier than we wish to pay for a nine month old. We did go to Signor Blum and bought a few items there. Reasonably priced as well. Unfortunately still haven’t found Italian made clothing for her, or a doll from Italy. Thank you

I'm not sure how much clothing is actually made in Italy these days, except for very fancy stuff that would be out of most people's budgets (and certainly not the kind of money you'd spend on a 9 month old!).

Maybe try the T Fondaco luxury department by Rialto Bridge. It is worth seeing even if you can't find childrens' clothing. You can even book a free visit to the rooftop:

If you like the housewares idea, there is a Ratti store on Salizada San Lio, not far from Rialto Bridge. They have all kinds of things. And you will pass an excellent gelato shop on the way, although perhaps it is too cold for gelato now.

We like to buy books in for our granddaughters in every country we visit. Ask your hotel where you can find a good bookstore, and find a lovely little picture book with very few words. If you speak any Italian, you can read it to her and let her begin to hear Italian. When she’s older, you & she can use Google translate to translate the words from Italian to English, often with hilarious results.
