Unique/Cool Experiences for Father’s Day in Rome

My husband and I will be taking my parents with us to Italy in June. We will be in Rome when we would have normally celebrated Father’s Day back in the States. I’m looking for a cool experience to gift my husband and dad. Does anyone have any suggestions? They both love wine but it doesn’t necessarily have to do with the experience. I’ve tried searching but not really coming up with anything. Thank you!

Try a tour of Nero’s Golden House, the Domus Aurea. It’s buried under the hill above the coliseum and is an active archeological site. Unusual and very cool. You need to reserve ahead of time.

Or, if food and wine are more to your liking I would highly recommend the walking food tour in Testaccio.

I second what Patricia said, the Eating Italy Testaccio food tour (the dinner one) is wonderful. It was one of my favorite experiences of our trip.

Guy stuff:
1. Roman Gladiator School? A 2-hour course, near the Collosseum.
2. Somewhere near the Trevi Fountain is a gelateria with a snaking serving line with about 150 flavors of gelato, 12 different varieties of chocolate as I remember. Gift them each a taste (or scoop) of each flavor.
3. A day trip to Naples to visit the wonderful Archeological Museum with many art objects and artifacts from the ruins at Pompeii. Let the boys loose in the adults-only brothel exhibit.

Take them to the Centrale Montemartini --- a museum of Greek and Roman sculptures in an old power plant with its huge old machines still in place. The contrast between white marble and shiny black metal is definitely cool and the museum is off the beaten track. Look at some Google Images to see what you think. My husband and I loved it.
