I have a tour reserved at 13:45 for a Scavi Underground Tour (and we're really excited!). However, I'm wondering if anyone out there that has already been on this tour knows approximately how long the tour lasts? I'm assuming about 2 hours total from arrival to completion. We are hoping to book a tour of the colosseum afterwards but don't want to book if it will be too close in time. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Before you book the Colosseum do realize that an added benefit at the conclusion of your Scavi Tour is a quick entrance (bypassing the waiting throngs) into St Peter's Basilica and also from there onto the climbing of St Peter's Dome. If neither of those things interest you then off to the Colosseum you go. However, once you exit the the Scavi entrance area through the metal barricades and past the Swiss Guards then it's too late to change your mind and go back to St Peter's Basilica...without getting BACK in line with all of the other thousands of people waiting.

If you are visiting in summer, try to do the Colosseum in the morning. It is brutal in the afternoon. Also, be aware that it is very warm, humid and close in the Scavi. We were very surprised as I expected it to be cooler underground . It was hot in the Scavi even in Oct.
