Underground Coloseum Tour

As I understand it, you can only get into the underground area as part of a tour. Our day just opened up on Friday and we were going to try and do it but all the tours in English are filled.

My question is this: I see some slots open for the tour in Italian. I really just want access to get down there and up on the third level. Will I be treated as a dirty American if I reserve 2 tour tickets in italian so I can tag along and see everything? I assume you must stay with the tour and cannot just stroll around once in...Or is there a way to do that?

I've read that people book the tours just to gain access and then do what they need to do. I'm just assuming since the underground is guided that you wouldn't be able to just roam around but I don't know. Can I ask how you are seeing slots open up? which web site? I'm still figuring it out myself. good luck.

You can book any language tour you wish. Just like with any tour you will need to remain with your guide for the entire tour. You cannot stay in the underground or third tier without your guide. You won't have the opportunity to go off on your own during the tour.

When you visit the Underground and Third Tier you are VERY limited in where you an go. In the underground portion you can only visit the very centre part underneath the wooden stage - our tour group of 20 completely filled this area so we really couldn't move around while listening to our tour guide. On the Third Tier you get a very small, maybe 100ft wide section of the Third Tier to visit. So unfortunately neither of these would allow for any sort of exploring.
