Underground Coliseum - How can it be sold out already?

I looked online and just called for an underground tour of the coliseum and the representative said they were already sold out for July 15th! Is this plausible..I was watching the dates like a hawk and called as soon as i could.

Are there any alternatives to getting in to the underground? We will have the ROMA Pass as an FYI.

So i did find a tour company (tickitaly) that does have a tour at 9:30 for us but it is on our last day and we have a train leaving at Termini at 13.57..

So the question would be is going underground the coliseum worth it? We would have an hour on the two and another hour to view the rest of the coliseum. We would have our huge backpacks (probably have to leave at hotel since I don't think there is storage at coliseum). So the taxi trip is about 40 minutes from coliseum to hotel and then to termini.

They generally make these available 2 months at a time so they can be bought in advance on line. They are popular and sell out quickly. Yes, it is plausible. I'd be shocked if it wasn't so. Your plan on your other post is doable. There is no storage there though there is at the termini. You could go ahead and check out and then store luggage at the termini to prevent having to run around so much.

Getting an up-close look at the sub-arena area, as well as the very top section of the Colosseum, was well worth our underground tour. We didn't have backpacks to stow, but at Ostia Antica as we were about to head home, the guard shack at the entrance stored our suitcases for us for free. Most Roman museums had extensive bag storage rooms (and umbrella storage, too!), but "outdoor" sites like Ostia Antica and, perhaps, the Colosseum, might not. And, if everyone had big backpacks, the site would be overwhelmed, but maybe you could get them to securely hold onto your packs while you tour the site.

Let me just tell you that NO TOURS for the underground and third ring were EVER on sale when they released them during the dates of July 9th-16th. I got up at 3am Sunday morning to be on the site when they went on sale and you could not book any of those dates. I was so frustrated!!!

We also wanted Wednesday the 15th. Let me know if you find something that we could split the price of a guide or something. We have 5 people (2 adults with 3 boys ages 15, 12, and 9).

We could book tickets for the 17th but that was the day we were leaving and already have our train tickets booked so I couldn't get those either.
