Umbria to Rome-best way to get there

We are looking to take a church group trip to Umbria next April 2012, but instead of flying home with the group, then we would go to Rome and spend 4 or 5 days there. What is the best way to get to Rome from Umbria?

Most likely train, but please tell us where are you staying in Umbria and how many people are there that will go on to Rome?

Train or bus. Many towns in Umbria do not have train stations so you have to take a bus to the train station. Next, where will you be beginning your travel to Rome from Umbria? For the train, look up your schedule from town or city in Umbria to Rome on www.trenitalia.com. It's about 2.5hrs on the train to Rome often with 1 train change. For the bus, the Sulga bus line goes from Perugia, Assisi, Deruta and Todi to Rome's Tiburtina train station (not Termini). www.sulga.it. About 3hrs on the bus. Please provide more detail on where you will be departing in Umbria and we can provide more detail.
