Umbria: Luggage storage advice for Narni, Trevi and Foligno

Good evening fellow travelers.

My question is probably a long shot but I've run out of avenues and I'm hoping one of the many very experienced folks on this forum might have some ideas for me.

My sister and I will be in Umbria in October this year, getting around by train and bus only. Travelling from Rome, we'd like to stop in Narni and wander around for a few hours before continuing on to our accommodations in Spoleto. Similarly, when moving from Spoleto to our next destination of Spello, we'd like to do the same in Trevi and possibly Foligno.

The problem will be finding somewhere (anywhere!) to store our carry-on luggage while we explore these places. I have checked out all the usual luggage storage websites to no avail. I have reached out to the TI offices and have had responses from Trevi and Foligno stating they don't know of any storage options. No response from the Narni office nor from the Hotel Narnia, which is close to the Narni-Amelia train station so I emailed them in case they might be willing to hold a couple of bags for a few hours for a fee. We can, of course, head directly to Spoleto and, subsequently, Spello, drop our luggage at our accommodations and then head back to these towns to visit, but I'd love to avoid the expense and inconvenience of back-tracking if possible. If anyone has ever stored luggage in either Narni, Trevi or Foligno before, I would be very grateful to hear about how you pulled it off. Again, a long shot, but if anyone knows, it is probably someone on this forum!

Another quick question: I know there is a local bus that runs between the Narni-Amelia train station and the Narni town centre, but I can't find a schedule anywhere and again, have had no response from the Narni TI. Has anyone ever used this bus? Any ideas on where to find the schedule?

Thanks very kindly, in advance, for any assistance!

Thank you for that link......and yes, of course, I should have realized I could get the info on the Narni bus via Google Maps. I think I was assuming it was much more of a local, shuttle bus of some sort and wouldn't be found on Maps. I appreciate the clarification.

Terni is a good idea for storing our luggage - thanks for the suggestion!

We spent 4 nights in Narni in December 2021, so I'm curious to know what draws you there. We had wanted to stay in Amelia solely to please our 4-year-old granddaughter Amelia and to take as many photos as possible with her name in them. But we couldn't find an apartment we liked in Amelia, so it became a day trip from Narni. Anyway, if you want lunch in Narni, our favorite place to eat there was the deli Terra & Arte --- just a handful of tables.

Thank you for the tip on where to eat in Narni.......sounds perfect for lunch.

In terms of what draws us there, simply that it came up as a lovely hill town in my research for our upcoming trip that was conveniently located between Rome and Spoleto on the rail line. However, given that it seems unlikely we will be be able to find luggage storage in Narni, visiting will require some backtracking, and as such, maybe a rethink as a day trip destination. As you spent 4 days there, would you say it is worth the trip? Thank you.

Oooh, I always find "worth" questions hard to answer! Italy is so full of small charming towns, and Narni is definitely one of them. It was our last base of a month-long visit to Umbria, chosen for being close to Amelia, to a few other day trips like to the ruins of Carsulae, and to Terni where we could return our rental car and take the train to Rome. So, it was very convenient for us since we had a car at that point, but it sounds like not so convenient for you taking buses and trains.

Where else are you staying besides Spoleto? Perugia? Would it be relatively easy for you to get to Gubbio by bus? Gubbio has some special features that made it stand out to us among other small Umbrian towns, for instance the birdcage lift to the top of its hill, and the steep and extra picturesque streets.

In Spoleto, if you like the story-telling sculptures on Romanesque church facades, walk to the Basilica di San Pietro, just outside of town. It's one of my very favorite church facades in Italy, with devils and angels batting over souls -- https://www.viaggiareinumbria.com/altorilievi-facciata-basilica-san-pietro-spoleto/

nancys8 - I appreciate your thoughts as well as the link to the Basilica di San Pietro.....it sounds right up my alley and we will definitely make our way to see it!

This will be my third trip to Italy - last time, we were there for almost a month and were all over the country . This time, we decided to focus in on Umbria (with a little Tuscany at the end), based on really enjoying previous stays in Assisi and Perugia . After Spoleto (with a hopeful day trip to Narni), we will stay in Spello (deciding on day trips to Trevi, Foligno, Bevagna or Montefalco, but the last two will be more challenging by bus), followed, you'll be glad to learn, by Gubbio (which will definitely be relatively easy to reach by train and bus via Perugia) and ending in Arezzo (where we will day trip to Anghiari) before we head back to Rome to fly home. I have loved the parts of Umbria I have already seen and can't wait to explore it more deeply!
