Umbria itinerary, winery recommendations, and favorite restaurants

We will be in Umbria mid February. I'm thinking two "bases" makes sense. We'll take a train to Orvieto and spend a couple days. Then we'll pick up a car to further explore Umbria. It's been a little hard to find a places to stay, probably due to time of year, but I think I have something that works in Montefalco. I appreciate any comments on this plan and any suggestions for wineries to visit. We like smaller, family owned wineries. We'd also be interested in wineries that have affiliated BnBs.

I've heard that Assisi is beautiful at dusk, and I can imagine that we may want to try restaurants in some of the neighboring towns. Should we have any concerns about evening driving, which I'm guessing at that time of year starts at about 6pm, between the towns?

Lastly, feel free to suggest any favorite restaurants. We tend to favor moderately priced, family owned restaurants.

We loved staying at the Ristorante Locanda Stella near Perugia. Great rooms with amazing views. The husband cooks traditional Umbrian food at dinner.

I can recommend the La Fonte Azienda Agricola, which is just outside Bevagna. La Fonte produces both wine and olive oil, both of which are delicious. One of the owners speaks very good english, and the property is charming and tranquil. And of course they do offer accomodations on site. We stayed in nearby Trevi (also recommended for a visit, particularly if you are interested in olive oil at all, there are several shops off the main square) so did not avail ourselves of the lodging. In any case, highly recommended. Umbria is wonderful, I wish we'd had more time than the 5 days we were there. We also visited Montefalco, it's a lovely town, so do recommend that as well. We were in Umbria in May this year, so driving in the dark wasn't an issue, but I can tell you that you shouldn't have any trouble if you have a GPS and navigation.

Also really liked Locanda le Logge in Urbisaglia, a village in southern Umbria. They have an excellent restaurant and very good rooms. Have stayed there atleast 4 times and it is always a highlight.
