Does anyone know if UHT milk (the ultra high pasturized, doesn't need to be refrigerated) is widely available in Italy? We will be staying in an agriturismo bungalow that may not have a refrigerator, and we'd like to be able to have milk in the mornings.
Are you talking about Parmalat--which happens to be an Italian company?
If so, their milk doesn't need to be refrigerated--until opened. Then it will last up to 3 weeks in the refrigerator.
As Franks says, UHT Milk was invented in Europe (Italy to be specific) and is more readily available overseas.
DUUUUH. I'm the dumb one here. Thanks for the info.

H-milk is all we ever buy, but do be aware that once you open it, it is like fresh milk and will go bad if you do not refrigerate it. The odd thing is that it won't really smell, it will just curdle when you put it in your coffee! If it is cool outside, then sit it out on your windowsill or balcony. I cannot imagine a rental property not having a fridge though.
