We are not museum fans but feel that we should go to either the Uffizi or Accademia while in Florence. Which is more interesting? Aren't they similar?
Accademia is quick visit to see David in various stages of creation and undress. Yeah, not much there. If you don't like spending time in museums, well, this is a winner for you since it's quick!
I'd go to both but if I had to pick just one it would be the Uffizi.
Happy travels.
Accademia to see David. Then stroll along the Arno.
No, they’re not similar. One concentrates on Michelangelo’s famous sculpture of David, the Uffizi showcases some of the finest Renaissance art in the world. Saying that, if you aren’t into sculpture or famous paintings such as Botticelli’s Birth of Venice, you might find a walk in the gardens across the river more enjoyable.
I don’t think we can really answer this one for you. My first response is that you should go to both, especially since they are some of the main reasons to go to Florence. After all, Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and so it contains a high concentration of Renaissance art and architecture.
I’ve been here 4 times and gone to both each time and been awestruck every time.
Uffizi has “more” art to view and is mostly paintings. Accademia’s main draw is the David statue.
I felt like the Accademia was a separate ticket and long wait for one major attraction. The Uffizi is on an entirely different scale and I only saw half of it in 4 hours. We bought the Passepartout ticket which includes the Uffizi (must go here first with a timed entry), the Archeological Museum, Pitti Palace, and Boboli Gardens. If you like Egyptian mummies and other ancient artifacts, I highly recommend the Archeological Museum. The Pitti can be covered in much less time than the Uffizi. Unfortunately it was storming so our visit to the Boboli gardens was cut short.
