What is the best and economical way to see the Vasari Corridor. We will be there May 27 2011. Will to be in a group We are 4 adults.
Best way is to know somebody in Florence who can check on available tours, and prebook. Perhaps your hotel, or call the Uffizi gallery. Corridor tours are very rarely offered, accept only a few people, and are not economical: I did it last october and the cost (if I remember correctly) was 90 euros per person. It was prearranged for me by a local friend, was a small group of 14 plus an English-speaking guide) and was accompanied by a museum security guy, the only one with the necessary keys. It's a long walk about 1.5 km, ending at Palazzo Pitti. Small windows only, on the Ponte Vecchio, and the walls are covered with paintings. Was it worth it? Yes - just to think I walked where the Medici rulers walked almost 500 years ago! Good luck!
Try these two websites; http://selectitaly.com/guided_services.php?product_id=364 http://www.contexttravel.com/city/Florence/walking_tour_details/Vasari_Corridor Looking back, I wish I had done it while I was there - maybe next time!
Susan - I have never tried to visit the Vasari Corridor, but I did see this in my researching... http://www.polomuseale.firenze.it/english/eventi/evento.asp?id=414 This is a description of the tour provided by the Museum staff of the Uffizi and the price is quite a bit better. Like euro 10... It looks like they are booked up through April, but it might be worth looking into. Perhaps you could contact them personally about the planned future events. I thought that it would be interesting even though it is conducted in Italian only.... Allora...
I took the Vasari Tour offered by Select Italy in 2006. I enjoyed it very much. It is something most visitors do not even know about. I highly recommend it.
