I was looking to make reservations for the Uffizi Gallery in Florence for the end of October. It seems that I can't make reservations after Oct 17. Will the gallery be closed after that date or am I doing something wrong?

I can't speak as to the Uffizi status this October. We were in Florence and Rome in early November of last year.
We were spending more time waiting for our entrance time then if we just stood in line. I doubt there was more than a 10 min line at either the Uffizi or the Accademia. Maybe 20 at the Vatican Museum in Rome. If you get there early. Ask if you can go in early. They usually let us in.
You might also want to check out the Medici chapel. IMHO the most underrated place in Florence. (Their hours last November seemed a bit squirrely.) And catching them open seemed hit or miss.
