Uffizi - least crowded time of day mid January

We are planning to visit the Uffizi this Wednesday (late morning or afternoon). When is it likely to be the least crowded? I realize we can reserve tickets in advance

That's a hard prediction to make. Crowds will vary by day of week and time of day. When you arrive in Florence, telephone the museum and ask.

Just get a reserved time, so you don't have to wait in line to get in. They only let a certain amount of people into the museum at one time, so it will never be overly crowded inside.

I don't know the answer either Richard, however, we were there last month and on a Thursday, walked right up and bought our tickets and entered, no lines, and also not crowded at all. Also, you may be able to get a few nice pictures of Ponte Vecchio from there.

Wednesday... you shouldn't have any problems with crowds. I would save myself the reservation fee and stand in line. Afternoon may be less busy than morning. Lunch time may be good too. Just walk by, if the line is short hop in line. it moves fast.

Or rather, it's always overly crowded. We were there in late October. The place was pretty much one big line snaking through the museum (maybe I'm exagerating but only a little). We had reservations so didn't have to wait to get in and there was a big line outside.

As a general rule, first thing is the best. If you can't do that, go the last hour; it's not enough time to see the museum but you could pick up the highlights with probably no crowd. As I recall the museum has some late days but I didn't use them and can't report on whether they were crowded or not.

Strolled in at 13.15 on Wednesday. No line, not very crowded.

Consistent with our experience at the Vatican Museum earlier in the week. Alas, the vase of Ajax and Achilles playing draughts was not out this time. :-( Otherwise, a very nice visit.
