Uffizi Gallery first Sunday of the month

Hello! We will be in Florence on Sunday July 1, 2018 and we want to see the Uffizi Gallery that day. We are leaving Florence Monday morning so Monday is not an option and neither is Saturday as we will be arriving late on Saturday evening. We have read past forums and already know it will be crowded and less than an ideal day to visit since there is free admission that day. In spite of this, my question is....has anybody here actually waited in line for the Uffizi Gallery on the first Sunday of the month? If so, what time did you go and how long did you wait to get in? Just trying to plan our day. Thanks in advance!

Your best option is to get in line early, well before the museum opens. I've seen midday lines stretching clear around the loggia and out into the Piazza della Signora, and I waited almost 2 hours in what looked like a short line late one Sunday afternoon. Pitti Palace and gardens are a good option for afternoon as it can absorb the large crowds. You might be lucky enough to find a reasonably short line at the Accademia late in the afternoon, but there's no guarantee.

Is visiting the Uffizi a dealbreaker? A visit to the Bargello is equally (if not more) interesting and fun, and the crowds pale in comparison to Uffizi.
