if we get admission tickets in advance is it worthwhile to get a guided tour or is rick's audio tour sufficient?
We used neither - just guidebooks we purchased at the entry bookshops - and did just fine. We've referenced those books many times since the trips so they were worthwhile purchases. I also have a enthusiastic interest in art so that may also make a difference?
It is individual. For us it is worthwhile or certainly we hope so and we booked it. They take care of everything including tickets. We booked The best of Florence and Tuscany package which includes Uffizi and Academia. We booked it on this website:

A book or audio guide would be my preference; you can go at your own pace.
Used the Rick Steves audio guide at both places. Pretty much run of the mill. Nothing that you couldn't get on your own. disappointed
thank you for all responses
