How far in advance should I book tickets to these?
We will be in Rome April 15 and in Florence May 10. I would like to wait until we are in Italy and as late as one week prior. Is that safe?

Last year I got Uffizi tickets the day I got to Florence for the next day. I got Accademia tickets from the gift shop/ ticket counter across the street from the entrance with an appointment time 15 minutes later that same hour. May not always be the case, but you should be okay in May.

If you know the dates you are going to be there it would make sense just to get those reservations in the US before yougo. You can wait until you get there but there may not be as much availability. If you can't afford to miss it, then go ahead and make the reservations.
