Uffizi and Accademia reservations necessary?

We will be traveling to Florence at the beginning of April and would like to see the Uffizi and Accademia. The fee to book 2 tickets online is 18.40 Euros. Is it worth it or are the lines small enough this time year we don't really need reservations?

It is always worth paying the fee because those lines are never small. They are between lengthy and hell. Seriously: those are two of the museums you DO want to make a reservation.

As the previous poster said, get a reservation and avoid the lines. I had our hotel obtain our reservations for the Accademia upon arrival. If you know where you are staying, you might want to ask them to get reservations for you. Have a great trip!

April is the start of high season in Italy, and early april is Easter break when lots of people are on holiday. You should book your tickets in advance to avoid the lines. Is that 18,40 the price for 2 tickets including reservation fee? That is not bad at all. There are various booking sites and you have to be careful. But even if you book directly by phone, there is a 3 euro fee, so that 18,40 looks like they are not adding anything extra. Which website are you using? The "official" site is supposed to be this one: http://www.b-ticket.com/b-ticket/uffizi/ But it charges 6,50 for the ticket and 4 for the reservation fee.
Also, that website will not let you book times before noon, while others will (but may charge more). The b-ticket website will also show you how many tickets are left for each time slot. I checked 2 dates in early April just to see. Looks like quite a few are left for April 4, but not many for April 6.

I went to the Uffizi.com the combo ticket, for both the Uffizi and the Accademia, for 2 is 69.40 euros including the 18.40 booking fee. Is this a good price? Thanks for your replies.

That seems high. uffizi.com is not the official site; it is an agency, so they are marking up the price. The price for both tickets reserved through the official site, or by phone, is 6,50 + 4,00 (reservation fee) x 4 (2 museums, 2 people) or 42,20 total. This is the official site for the museums: http://www.polomuseale.firenze.it/#!prettyPhoto and to buy tickets it will link you to this one: http://www.b-ticket.com/b-ticket/uffizi/ The problem, as I mentioned above, is that the b-ticket site will only sell tickets starting at noon, not in the morning. If you want morning tickets, you can call for a reservation and they will give you a confirmation number to pick up the tickets at the museum. They do not charge your card; you pay when you pick them up. That is what we did as we definitely wanted a morning time for the Accademia. The call cost me $10! But if you have a way to call Italy for less that might work for you. Actually there should be no problem visiting both museums in one afternoon, as you don't need much time for the Accademia if your interest is only the David.

For others, another option in the off season is to stop by the ticket office early in the morning, and pick your time at the Uffizi. We stopped, picked a time just an hour later (even though there was a long, long line waiting) went, had gelato, walked the market, then showed up, walked right in. In season, times certainly will book up more quickly, but hotels basically are doing the same thing, just phoning ahead.

For off-off-season, walking in is an option. We were there last week in February and my parents walked in with no problem. We opted not to drag our kids through either museum, but the line was about 12 people long when we debated going in the Uffizi.

Having the hotel make the reservation for you is usually the best option and minimal hassle. Also, the Accademia line is typically minimal about an hour before closing. You can pretty much walk right in and the museum takes no more than an hour to see. Having a reservation is fine, but personally I wouldn't pay for it unless I wanted a specific entry during the morning or early afternoon.
