I've been looking into making reservations at both of these sites when we're there in August. I went to the website in Rick's book (www.b-ticket.com/b-ticket/uffizi) and there are no reservations earlier than 12. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your help.
The number of tickets available for reservation online is quite restricted. If you call the reservation line directly by phone they may still have tickets for your preferred day. It's very easy, takes no more than 2-3 minutes and you get to speak to an English speaking operator. Just make sure you call during Italian business hours.

You can also email your Florence hotel and they can make the reservations for you. That's what I've done in the past. Good luck!
I just called a few days ago and made reservations to the Accademia and Uffizi for mid July. Was very easy to do and was on hold for about 8 min.
Our inexpensive hotel in Florence made the reservations for us happily. I emailed them our preferred dates/times and they emailed back the selections. Very easy and worked out fine.
As you can see from the experience here: phone calls are the best way to get tickets for your desired day. Especially if you are booking with little time ahead or if you're booking for a larger group as you can only book max. 5 tickets online (some private ticket website may allow you to reserve more but charge extra for that service). Do it either through your hotel or if you're staying at an appartment just call yourself. It's easy ;-)
