Has anyone been to Udine? It is Northern Italy, north of Venice. I was wondering if it is a large enough city to take a train to, or would I need a car like the hill towns. Any info re: anything would be greatly appreciated!
It has a train station. It's about 2 hours from Venice. More info at trenitalia.com Happy travels.
We stayed in a wonderful winery (La Boatina) in Cormons, 25 Klm from Udine. We would travel to Udine to do wine tasting, and to eat some of our meals. Udine was a neat town. We had a car and used it to explore the Friuli Venezia Giulia area: the port city of Trieste, the old Roman ruins/port of Aquilea, Gorizia (right next to Slovenia), etc. We used the Lonely Planet guidebook to plan our stops. It also has great info about your transportation options. You can take a train from Venice, Rome, etc, or fly into the area.
