Uber in Rome

Anyone had experiences with using UBER in Rome? Do they run a system similar as in the USA? Usually multiple cars being available with a not terribly long wait time?

Uber is not in Rome, except for Black Uber. Taxis are commonly used.

To add the comment from the previous poster, Uber Black is a black limo service operated by licensed luxury limo operators. Italian courts have decided years ago that the traditional Uber service provided by private citizens with their own cars without an official taxi medallion or limo medallion granted by the City is not legal. As a result Uber operates Uber Black, which is legal, but more expensive than taxi (basically same price as limo service).

The taxi cooperatives in Italy however use an app that works exactly like the Uber or Lyft app.
My relatives in Rome use ItTaxi. Another popular one is FreedomNow. You can download the apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Taxis were cheap in central Rome and easy, but you tend to have to get them at the cab stand rather than trying to flag them.

Another thing to consider -- there are Bird scooters all over. We did those several times, especially when it was 90+ F and too hot to walk around.
