Uber In Italy

has any used Uber in Italy recently? Curious if the app works there. I read recently they lifted the ban on advertising and uber can operate for now.

Uh, I'm in Rome right now and I just saw a sign warning that using Uber is illegal and anyone caught using Uber has to pay a 600 Euro fine or something outrageous like that.

But you know, if you know the ropes, even Rome taxis are reasonable. Do what I do, go to
www.worldtaximeter.com
And plug in point A to point B in a chosen city and you will get the cost of the trip, the driver may add 1 Euro for luggage, and that's it, that's the total cost you pay.

That's how I avoid the scams and they're still here, like when I wanted to get from Termini to Piazza Asti 25, I knew it was an 11 Euro trip on worldtaximeter, so when some driver at the taxi lanes at Piazza del Cinquecento quoted me 30 Euro I said Hell No. The next driver said his meter will be on. Sure enough at the end of the trip his meter said 11 Euro, and he added 1 Euro for putting two bags in his trunk, which was fine with me.

There's No reason to guess, no use for estimates or ranges. Start now at home plugging in A to B addresses so you know exactly what you're doing when you get here. It's your money, take care of it.

I had to deal again with scammers the other day when I was walking to the MA4 buses at Piazza del Cinquecento that take the place of the Metro subway Red Line A out here to Re Di Roma Metro stop and other Metro stops that are shut down. I got intercepted by a gang of drivers who insisted that the buses were on strike! I had been taking the MA4 buses for days. So I point to the buses and point out that people are boarding and get out of my way!!!

Do yourself a favor and arm yourself with knowledge and tools that enable you to help yourself. The scammers think we're foreign, stupid and anxious, so don't be.

Just left Rome, and I used officially licensed Taxis every time but one when I misread the tag in the side. That one time was the most expensive ride and he had an uber map on his phone so I assume he was uber. Stick with the official Rome taxis and you will be good. So to answer your question, they do have uber and I think I opened the app once, but I do not recommend using them.

Uber Black, a luxury black limo service driven by licensed professional limo drivers, is the only Uber service allowed by Italian law. It operates in Rome and Milan only. The Uber service driven by regular people who sign up, like it is common in America, is not permitted.

I heard that Uber Black is a good service, aboard black luxury Mercedes Benz cars. However the prices will be more than a regular taxi cab, substantially more during peak hour surge pricing.

I just flew back from Rome and used Uber to pick me up and get me to FCO early in the morning.

As Roberto has pointed out, only Rome and Milan has Uber, and Black/Lux are the only allowed services. For four of us, we took a van, pre-booked it the day before, and it came out to 70euro and change.

you wuz robbed. Unless you were outside the walls you would have paid €48 plus bags in the trunk for an official taxi for the same ride - officially set flat rate.
