Uber Black ban temporarily lifted by Italian Courts.

Days ago a Court issued a ban to all Uber services in Italy, stating unfair competition practices in a case brought up by the Taxi associations.

After Uber filed an Appeal, the Court lifted the ban temporarily until the Appeals Court hears and the case and decides.

So Uber is back in business in Rome and Milan, at least for now.

Edit: I found this Italian Associated Press Agency (ANSA) article in English.

The Uber services that are (for now) allowed in Italy continue to be only luxury black limousine services (e.g. Uber Black). Licensed professional drivers are the only ones allowed to operate with any Uber service.

The more economical and popular Uber service driven by ordinary folks using their cars (called UberPop in Europe), is still not legal in Italy.

I hate (shady) Uber....it's like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, it keeps rising from that bathtub every time you think it's dead already :-)

Glad to read this, I really like knowing ride cost in advance of my trip. Especially helpful in new places.

But will UBER still operate like an expensive limousine service in Italy? That was its history I think. It actually costs more than taxis? That won't work for me.

I take UBER and LYFT exclusively in Chicago only because it's cheaper than taxis, goes where taxis won't go, arrives in a few minutes, even in bad weather and rush hour, Apps track their routes, and Apps show cost of trip before making request! The APPs are
Amazing! The service is Amazing!! Don't have to have cash, debit or credit cards on you!

I would Not survive Chicago without UBER and LYFT !!

Roberto,

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully the courts decide against Uber and the ban will be re-instated quickly. This is a good reminder that it might be time for me to send another letter to our local government authorities, to urge them to continue the ban on Uber here in B.C.
