U.S. Customs Allowance on Wine and Olive Oil

I'm leaving for Rome in 4 days and haven't been able to find information regarding how much wine or how much olive oil I will be allowed to bring through U.S. Customs in Chicago. Also, what are the allowances in Rome for taking the above items OUT of Italy. I have a connecting flight in London (Heathrow). Will it be a problem there? We will be leaving the U.S. with only a carry on bag, but will most likely have to check a bag on our return trip. Can anyone out there answer my questions? Thanks.

Thank you, thank you Kent. I'm leaving for Rome in 2 days and, even though I've spent hours on-line researching this, and sending numerous emails, I wasn't able to get an answer from ANYONE in the various agencies. We are only taking carry-ons to Rome, but I knew we would have to check at least 1 bag upon our return. Thank you. One more question answered, 1,000 to go!!!

No limits on either, must be in checked bags but be conscious of your airline weight limits. Upon arrival in the US, Alcohol must be declared, and the Olive Oil must be declared as Food. The Alcohol is subject to Duty (any over a few bottles) but in multiple trips, including bringing back a dozen bottles recently, have never had to actually pay duty.
