Two weeks in Sicily Itinerary Help

Hi All,

I know that there are many discussions regarding the two weeks itinerary in Sicily, but I have a planning paralysis after reading multiple sources of information, since there is so much to see in terms of architecture and nature.

I am a slow traveler who usually 2 major city with prominent sites (i.e. UNESCO) with small towns and traditional villages, exploring the nature and soaking in the local culture and way of life. I am hoping to do similar in Sicily.

It is our first trip to the island. We will have a car. We are leaving in a week, travelling dates October 9-24.

We booked accommodations for the first leg of the trip - 9 nights. NEED HELP WITH THE 2ND PART OF THE TRIP AND YOUR FEEDBAC IN GENERAL. THANK YOU!

DAY 1-DAY 4: PALERMO (4 nights)

DAY 5 - pick up a car and drive to: Monreale--> Castellammare--> Castelluzzo (overnight location)

DAY 5-DAY 7: CASTELLUZZO (3 nights) *Day 6: hike in Zingaro National Park; swimming *Day 7: Drive to Erice and around.

DAY 8-DAY 9: MAZARA DEL VALLO (2 nights)

DAY 10: Drive to Selinunte-->Villa Romana in Piazza Armerina *Stay overnight somewhere near Piazza Armerina/inland?

DAY 11-DAY 12: MARZAMEMI coastal village??? (2 nights)

DAY 12-DAY 13: SYRACUSE-ORTIGIA (2 nights) DAY 14: drive to CEFALO and stay overnight.

QUESTIONS:

1). Does it make sense to stay for 2 nights in Marzamemi if it is only 1 hour drive away from Syracuse? Should we stay in only 1 of these locations as a base (in this case 3 nights vs 4) to explore and relax?

2). I would be interesting to stay for 2 nights in some small historical town in the interior, i.e.: Castelbuono, Geraci Seculo, Gangi, Petralia Soprana, etc. Heard Cltagirone is a beautiful town and I love/collect pottery.

3). SAND BEACHES: which sand beaches do you recommend along our route?

You know a lot and have made a good plan that seems almost complete. From what I have read about Sicily so far, you should find some very fine beaches just north of Palermo, at Selinunte, south of Noto and of course in Cefalu.

I would base in Siracusa for the four nights you have spread between that and Marzamemi, or vice versa. Maybe even take a night off that leg or Palermo and spend an extra day Cefalu. That is one town I am looking forward to returning to and spending more time.

Conversely, Cefalu was the one place in Sicily that we did not enjoy. The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, at dusk, was a highlight for us and there are some lovely beaches nearby.

Marzamemmi will be all but deserted even on the weekend during your dates. Go there on a day trip..it takes about an hour to see the town, at the most. Buy tuna at ADELFIA if you are interested in food. or Campiso.

Have lunch in PortoPalo di Capo Pessaro, at SCALA.....short, easy drive from Marzamemmi.
Then head back to Ortigia. We just had a nice dinner at MAMMA IABICA, on the Siracusa side of the bridge.
Also like DON CAMILLO but it it more upscale and expensive.

Marina di Ragusa has a long sand beach but likely not groomed at your time of year.
Look at the ones closer to Siracusa...Fontana Bianchi, etc.

Why are you skipping Ragusa Ibla?
