Two weeks in Italy...late Sept...need help with itinary.

I am going to Italy in late Sept for my honeymoon. My plane lands in Venice on Fri Sept 14 at 1:15pm. I depart from Rome on Sept 28 at 12:10pm. I know that I want to hit Florence and the Amalfi Coast before hitting back to Rome. My bride and I have been to Europe together twice and we like to travel with one carry on each. I like to see as much as possible and really pack in the sites. She would like to spend several days in the Amalfi coast just relaxing which is cool with me. Many friends have suggested Positano. In particular they recommend Punta Regina. I need to get started on an itinerary and need some help. I would like to see the museum in Naples and Pompeii.

Are you traveling THIS September? You need to make reservations ASAP. It is very busy in Italy in Sept. Here's an idea to get you started on an itinerary: Sept 14 - Arrive Venice and settle in Sept 15 - Venice Sept 16 - Venice (3 nights) Sept 17 - travel to Florence Sept 18 - Florence Sept 19 - Florence (3 nights) Sept 20 - Travel to Amalfi Coast, stop in Naples on the way to see the Museum. It's a three hour train ride to Naples (leave at 9:14 arrive at 12:10). Spend three hours in Naples for museum and lunch, then on to Sorrento via Circumvesuviana. Take a bus to Positano. (There moght be a ferry option but I ahve not taken it. Others may offer advice on this.) Sept 21-23 - Positano (4 nights total) Sept 24 - travel to Rome, 4 nights
Sept 28 - depart One downside to Positano is that it is a long daytrip to Pompeii. You might be able to see Pompeii on your way back to Rome on the 24th if you leave really early from Positano. Sorrento makes a slightly better base, IMO, but if Positano is where you want to be, it is beautiful and romantic. Good luck!

Donald, check out Ravello for a beautiful and romantic setting (even if you just go there for dinner). Positano is a little easier to get to, but if you'll be there for several days, you might consider Ravello. And definitely, start making reservations soon! Check out booking.com or venere.com for hotels.

Thanks for the help.
I got rooms in Venice and Florance at the Westin thanks to points. Any suggestions for lodging in Rome and the Amafi coast?

In Rome, just stay central: Somewhere between Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori, the Colosseo. Then you are near most of the sites you'll want to see and good transportation and restaurant options. There are many many boutique hotels and B&Bs. Try Booking.com as a good source. We have stayed in Sorrento at Hotel Antiche Mura and loved it.
