Hi! My husband and I have already booked flights and hotels in Rome and Paris in April. We have two nights to spare in between these cities and thought we'd take the train from Rome to Milan for the weekend and then the high-speed train with views from Milan to Paris. The problem: our weekend falls at the end of April when it's design week in Milan. The hotels are extremely pricey and many are booked already. Now we're not sure what to do. Does anyone have any recommendations on hotels in Milan OR a change in plans? We check out from our hotel in Rome on Friday, April 24, and check into our hotel in Paris on Sunday, April 26. We're not opposed to flying, either. Thanks!
I've always wanted to go to Turin. And I think would provide a similar trip to what you have planned train wise. It is much less touristy than Rome and Paris, so might be a nice change.
Or you could look at a small town on the Italian Riviera, however I don't think you will be able to get a high speed train to or from there, so it might be a lot of travel for really only 1 day of being there.
Turin would be great, as would Lyon in France.
Totally agree with Turin and Lyon. They are remarkably interesting cities with wonderful museums and outstanding food.
Have you been to Florence or Bologna?
You could take the train to either and then fly to Paris
